Prayer brings with it many blessings! The word for prayer in the NT is Proseuche. The meaning is going towards God to make our requests known to Him. We see the Psalmists starting out with worry, fear, doubt, anger and other emotions that turn their attention to their said problem. However, once they go before God in prayer, their attitudes take a turn from all of these to a place of peace, hope, trust and joy in God.
I want to share with you the 7 P’s of Prayer:
Our Posture in Prayer : Humility -We should approach God humbly knowing He is a God who doesn’t turn away those who come to Him in humility and need (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Our Practice of Prayer : Consistent -We should be praying to God daily and any given moment we need Him. We don’t have a limited number or quota that is allotted to us for approaching Him. We can approach Him as many times as we need. Paul’s admonition to us is to pray without ceasing. It is the same idea, that is, to pray at all times (1 Thess 5:17)
Our Prerogative for Prayer : Relationship -We have the privilege of approaching boldly the throne of grace because of what Christ has done for us as Our Savior. We have trusted in Him for salvation and now we can come before Him freely, without shame and ask of Him, as His children, whatever we need (Hebrews 4:16)
The Power of Prayer : Answer -It is amazing to know our prayers are heard by the living God. They don’t just evaporate into the atmosphere. Our prayers reach the throne room of heaven! God hears and He answers us. What an amazing transaction! (Psalm 66:19)
The Peace that comes from Prayer : Rest -Once we pray, we can rest in knowing God will answer us. Scripture says after Hannah prayed her face was “no longer downcast.” (1 Samuel 1:18)
The Patience required in Prayer : Waiting -In our walks with God, we will soon learn that God’s ways aren’t our ways and His timing isn’t our timing. Waiting is a sure part of the Christian walk because in this time God does a work of refining us/our character and growing our trust in Him (Romans 8:25)
The Pursuit of Prayer : God -It is Oswald Chambers who said “The meaning of prayer is that we get hold of God, not of the answer.” Of course, God will answer but our goal shouldn’t be to go to God to acquire things from Him but to worship Him and seek His face because He is worthy!
May you desire to grow in your prayer life every day!
